Nancy and Sochaux, two teams in the bottom of the table of the French championship. That is normal for guests, while Nancy didn’t expect this to happen again. I said again because they are in almost the same situation as two seasons ago.

Nancy is not big club with huge budget, but they managed to build very good team and last season they were fighting for the place in CL through whole season, but in last few rounds Marseille took over third position. That means just UEFA Cup.

Pablo Correa can count on limited number of good players and when they must play two matches per week he can’t rest any of them. Without real replacements Nancy is not able to play on same level in Europe and in France, usually domestic championship suffers. That is visible after just 9 rounds, with only one win and position right above relegation zone. Absolutely same as two seasons ago. Everything will come on right place when they finish their Europe adventure and they will easy come back in first half of the table, but it will be too late for something more. UEFA Cup is the main reason for bad results in the beginning of the season, but you shouldn’t be worried for them, Nancy will be the old one in the second part of the season and they will easy stay out of trouble.

That is something I can’t say for Sochaux. In last few seasons they are fighting for survival and every time somehow manage to escape relegation. In the finish of the last season they won a few away matches and with those points they managed to get out of the relegation zone. In this moment they are on the bottom as only team in France without win after nine rounds.

After three defeats in first three away games in France, Sochaux took point in Nice. Interesting thing about this team is the fact that every match in Ligue 1 finished with 2 or three goals scored. Five times it was 1-1 and four times they lost game 2-1.

Both teams are defensive minded and this is going to be boring game. Nancy is always playing their game and waiting for some mistakes of opponent’s defense, while Sochaux will try to do something on counters. Nancy usually doesn’t know what to do when they play against defensive team. Their plan for every match is to catch enemy on some counter and to take lead, after that everything is much easier because opponent must attack and Gavanon and company are extremely dangerous from counter attacks. Sochaux have same plan in this match and that is the problem.

How to play on counters when your opponent doesn’t want to attack? I expect to see just few chances and maybe two goals top. Because of the match in UEFA Cup I can’t give advantage to Nancy, even they are better team. This could be chance for first win for Sochaux and it won’t be big surprise. My pick for this match is draw. Maybe another 1-1 for Sochaux…

Odds are good and it worth of risks in my opinion.
